Setting up your SPAM filters:

By setting your email client (RiderWeb Webmail, Outlook, Netscape Messenger) to filter mail with a score above a certain level it is possible to eliminate SPAM from your mail box.

We recommend a SPAM score of 5 stars (*****) as a starting threshold.

Setting up Outlook
This setup will move all tagged SPAM to a SPAM folder.

  1. Select Tools > Tools Wizard > New
  2. Check > Message when they arrive > Click next
  3. Check > With Specific Word in the Subject [screen capture]
  4. Click "specific word" in the next box and Enter the text "(*****" where the number of "*" is your desired SPAM score. Click Add > Click OK.
  5. Click > Next, then check "move it to the specified folder", below click on "specified", then click on New and name your new folder SPAM. Click OK. [screen capture]
  6. Click > Next, add any exceptions, if any (none needs to be checked), click > Next again. Click Finish.

Setting up Outlook Express
This setup will move all tagged SPAM to a SPAM folder.

  1. 1) Select Tools > Message Rules > Mail
  2. New Mail Rule > in #1 check the box "Where the subject line contains specific word". [screen capture]
  3. In box #3 you will see text > click on "contains specific words", then Enter the text "(*****" where the number of "*" is your desired SPAM score. Click Add. [screen capture]
  4. In the #2 box (of the New Mail Rules) specify what action to take, select 'move it to a specified folder'.
  5. In box #3 click on the word 'specified'. [screen capture]
  6. Click on 'new folder' & name it SPAM.
  7. In the last box you can give your 'new rule' a name such as 'spam rule'.
  8. Click OK.

Setting up Netscape Messenger [screen capture]
This setup will move all tagged SPAM to a SPAM folder.

  1. Select Edit->Message Filters from within Netscape Messenger
  2. Select New (filter)
  3. Enter Filter Name "SPAM", Select "Match all of the following".
  4. Select "Subject" from first drop down list
  5. Select "Contains" from second drop down list
  6. Enter the text "(*****" where the number of "*" is your desired SPAM score
  7. Under Filter Action, select "move to folder" then "SPAM". You will need to create a new SPAM folder
  8. Press ok.
  9. Press ok in "Message Filters"
